UEC-GT, JSC (UEC-GT, JSC is a part of the United Engine Corporation, Rostec State Corporation) signed a contract with Gazprom Invest to supply GPA-4RMP gas compressor sets with reciprocating compressors for Kaliningradskoye Underground Gas Storage Facility.
This contract was signed after Gazprom made a decision to start Phase 2 expanding Kaliningradskoye UGS facility. The equipment for Phase 1, i.e. four GPA-4RMP, was manufactured and commissioned by UEC-GT, JSC in September 2013.
Three gas compressor sets will be supplied to the Customer’s site in 2019.
It is the first time in the Russian manufacturing practice that combined gas compressor set was produced having a gas turbine engine used as a reciprocating compressor drive. The main purpose of manufacturing such gas compressor sets is to use underground gas storage facilities created in salt caverns in newly built compressor stations where operation is required within wide pressure range at natural gas high compression ratio. GPA-4RMP combined gas compressor set used in compressor stations allows uniting in one machine the advantages of reciprocating compressor and gas turbine engine.
The main advantages of the gas compressor set including reciprocating compressor versus centrifugal one – operation in almost any range of suction/discharge pressure, no need to perform compressor flow path restaging due to parameters changing and, as a matter of course, higher life time indicators.
GPA-4RMP is based on high cost/performance ratio GTD-4RM gas turbine engine manufactured by UEC-Saturn, JSC (Rybinsk).
Kaliningradskoye UGS facility is designed to create the necessary gas reserves to balance daily and seasonal swings in gas consumption and also to maintain flexible and reliable gas supplies in case of extremely cold winters and accidents.
